From Laptops to Mobile Devices
Replacing laptops at the weighbridge with a barcode-scanning mobile app, built on the Dynamics 365 Unified Operations mobile framework.

Illustrative: moving weighbridge data entry from laptops to mobile devices.
The client
A major waste disposal company whose weighbridge operators recorded every vehicle's weight and related documentation manually, using laptops at each weighing station.
The challenge
Two everyday warehouse operations were slowing staff down: recording vehicle weights at the weighbridge, and managing/editing the resulting weighing documentation. Doing this from a laptop at a fixed station limited operators' mobility and made the process slower than it needed to be.
The solution
- Built a mobile app on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Unified Operations mobile app framework.
- Operators scan a barcode with a smartphone or tablet to start recording a weight.
- The app supports material classification (including flagging dangerous goods) and warehouse location allocation.
- Weighing slips are generated automatically in Dynamics 365, with deduction handling for multi-material loads so customer invoices stay accurate.
- Existing slips can be edited after creation — correcting errors or adjusting automated weighbridge records — before being batch-posted to Dynamics 365.
Technology
Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Unified Operations, built on its native mobile app framework.
