A waste management and recycling company based in Sweden, implemented together with an Austrian Microsoft Dynamics partner who needed extra development capacity to deliver a vertical, industry-specific solution.
The challenge
The Swedish waste disposal enterprise needed to optimize its internal processes and extend the standard ERP functionality to handle industry-specific operations: tracking containers, managing disposal contracts, and recording weighbridge transactions — none of which are covered out of the box by Microsoft Dynamics AX.
The solution
- Business Partner Maintenance — a dedicated system for managing customers and suppliers, with industry-specific settings and contact details.
- Container Management — tracking container types, sizes, weights, contents, ownership and full displacement/posting history.
- Contracts & Quotations — service agreements for waste disposal, material export and removal, with entry-into-force dates.
- Work Orders — automatically generated from confirmed contracts, with linked sales orders.
- Weighing Operations — a mobile app that lets staff scan a barcode with a smartphone or tablet to create weighing slips, which are then batched automatically into Dynamics 365.
Technology
Microsoft Dynamics AX upgraded to the latest version, integrated via the DIXF framework and OData protocol, with the MCS transportation route optimization system, the Dynamics 365 for Unified Operations mobile app framework, and Azure DevOps for delivery.
